Jim Carver

Welcome!

This is the place to find information about me, my background, and what my experiences can offer to anyone involved in community theatre. It's still under construction, but there's still plenty to see, so have a look around and come back anytime.

Many years of experience as a director led me to write this book. Whether you're just starting out or you have directed dozens of shows I think this guidebook can teach you something about the process.

From the back cover:

" Here is a lifetime of practical knowledge mixed with acute intuition into a success formula for the rest of us. Unique in directing books, Jim Carver aimes right at the paradox of community theatre--directing novice and accomplished actors in the same play and giving both a fantastic experience."
Morrie Enders, Executive Director, Lincoln (Neb) Community Playhouse.

"I think it is an excellent hanndbook. Carver's advice is easy to understand and very practical. Every community theatre should have copies available for their new (and experienced) directors."
Arthur Nemitz, President, The Community Theatre Association of Michigan.

"Wow,wow, WOW. I started taking notes on page two."
Sharon Kirby-Cole, Director, Longmont Theatre Company

"The quintessential book for directing comedy, from an actor's director...and a director's actor."
Michael Ray Helms. Actor/Director

A public statement by a new reader.

"He puts the corn where the mules can get it."
